The anime challenge that I embarked on this year took over the majority of my blog since its start. As I near the final stretch, I thought I would give everyone an update on my plans and what they can expect the rest of the year.
To everyone that’s been following my challenge: I’m impressed with you because I haven’t made it very clear at all what I’ve been doing. Looking back, I feel like I could have done more to make this more fun for everyone reading. This is my first blog and, really, my first attempt at sharing a passionate interest with others. I didn’t really know how to get people interested, and I could have been more engaging for those of you that visited here. Instead I just posted reviews and updated a picture every once in a while.
If you have looked at said picture before now: Congratulations! You found something cool on my blog despite my failure to highlight it. Finishing anime was all the more satisfying when I got to put a little sticker (the same ones I use as review ratings) on my sheet and fill my otaku meter 30 more pixels. For those of you that have not seen it, I’ve re-posted it below for your convenience.
The latest update will show that I have finished my viewing requirement. 30 anime in a year, more than my lifetime total. That was the fun part. Now all that’s left is the work.
By work I mean actually writing the reviews so that I have something to show for watching all this anime. When I started doing these reviews, I wasn’t sure how they were going to fit into my challenge. Nor did I anticipate their length. Those of you who read my reviews know what I mean. They tend toward the 4000 word mark, which is probably more than most people want to read. Since many of you commented on the depth of the reviews, I decided to keep doing them that way.
See Kanata Sorami near the far right of the progress bar above? Making a heart with her hands? That’s the review I finished most recently. That means there are four reviews remaining in the list of anime I watched this year. A couple months back, after seeing how much work I was putting into each one, I didn’t think I would finish them all before the end of the year. But with 16 days left, that goal just may be in reach.
What that means is that I’ll be doing the same thing I’ve been doing for a few weeks now: Spending all my free time writing reviews. For those of you who aren’t into them that much, I am sorry. I do have more content planned for next year, but with my goal within reach I would like to continue and try to finish what I started back in July.
I also realize I’ve been neglecting some of the more community oriented things that have been going on. Many of you have also been sending me award nominations and thus far I haven’t been able to do even one. I’m sorry if it looks like I’ve been ignoring you. I value every bit of the kindness you’ve shown me and I’m humbled that you thought of me when choosing blogs to recognize. I haven’t forgotten and I’ll make time for them in January.
Until then, I do hope you enjoy the reviews I have left.

Awesome you watched all 30 animes! Excited to see what other content you have in store next year, though I do like the long reviews XD

Thank you! Seeing how much you and others get out of it help keep me going. I’m certainly not done watching anime after this year, so I’ll still get a review out every now and then.

Really: you have nothing to worry about. The reviews you are writing are seriously awesome and unique: just because they are so long, and feature so many aspects of the Anime that you have watched, it gives a very good view of everything. I love reading those posts! As for neglecting other things, no worries about that either. Blogging can take up a lot of time (but it is always time well spent), and I have never felt that you have been ignorning things 😀 You always manage to respond to comments, so really: no worries. Goodluck with writing the reviews, and have a good Christmas 😀

I know you are one of the people who enjoy the long reviews 😛 Thank you for the continued support and the kind words. The only reason I worry about spending so much time is because I never have enough time to read more from the people I follow and find even more great stuff. Blogging is a balancing act, for sure.

I know exactly what you mean. I just came home from work, and find 42 new posts waiting to be read. I always try and read as much as I can, and always respond to comments, but it definitely is a balancing act. That said: it is also a lot of fun, as I really enjoy reading posts, as much as I like writing them 😀

Your long reviews are great! I admire that you’re able to cover the shows you watch with such depth. I think that there’s a place for more detailed reviews as well as shorter ones, and I know that I’ll get an up-close (but spoiler-free) look at a show from your writing.
Well done with completing your viewing challenge! Hopefully you can get the review part done too, and if not, if the reviews come out in the new year that’s fine too. I look forward to seeing your thoughts on the shows.

There is a place for all kinds of blog posts for sure. I just have a problem where if I write a brief statement, I’m always itching to explain further. I can’t be personally satisfied until I cover all angles I can 😦
I know no one will grill me over not getting all the reviews posted in 2016. At this point I think more than anything else I just want to see if I can do it.

Actually waiting for your review on SAO 2 and A lull in the sea., I loved both, hoping to find something interesting and I know I will. Take your time and do it 😀❤

You recognized the pictures. I’m impressed!
Both shows have a lot in them, so I’ll do my best to give them the proper Weekend Otaku examination. The last one might be tough since it’s the longest series I watched this year.

Congratulations on finishing the challenge. I’m eager to see more of your reviews (and anything else you may put out).

Thank you very much! I was inspired by some of the deeper theme examinations you do on your blog, so one of the things I would like to try next year is something similar. Hope you will enjoy!

Thank you! As pointless as it is to set a personal goal based on watching a bunch of anime, this was important to me in a way. I can claim to be an otaku without lying to myself now!

It’s not pointless if it’s what you love! And with the amount of work you’ve put in your articles, that’s more than apparent. Keep it up.

It’s very impressive that you’ll be able to complete the challenge of finishing 30 anime shows, hooray!
Well, I know you were previously torn about how each review takes a long time to write up and I know you’ve received feedback about how people appreciate the detail you put into each one. I’m of the same opinion. But you should write your reviews the way you want to write them. Some people may not want to read your in-depth reviews, but that will be their loss!
Here’s to a wonderful end to the year 2016!

Thank you so much! I don’t like to be the kind of person that needs validation to do things my way, but it definitely helps to know there are others who get a lot of enjoyment out of it as well.
I always wanted to have other content regardless, since I didn’t want my blog to have just one thing (reviews). With that in mind, some of the stuff I’m planning will hopefully appeal to people who prefer shorter articles, but we’ll see how that goes when the time comes.
Thank you for the kind wishes. I always appreciate your feedback and support!
