“Secret Theft Tactics”

On a journey to see his father’s grave, Hasegawa makes his way through Enshu where he happens upon a couple trying to escape the local authorities. Though he is duty bound to hand them over, a thief named Zenpachi convinces him that their master is a crooked man. Pretending to be a thief himself, Hasegawa helps Zenpachi plan a robbery.

Winter 2017 Week 6

As we head into the second half of Winter 2017 season, some series have managed to fall from glory, while others have risen to the occasion. The time for developing characters and back stories is over, as dramatic structure dictates the narrative head towards a riveting climax. 

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid – Episode 6

“Home Visit! (And Homes Not Visited)”

While Kanna attends a play date at Riko’s house, Kobayashi and Tohru tag along to meet Georgie, Riko’s ‘maid.’ Naturally, Kobayashi and Georgie instantly bond over their maid obsession, leading to Torhu feeling left out. Later, the show focuses on Lucoa and Fafnir and how they are getting on in the human world. The question to be answered in this episode is: “who knows what you’ll summon when you cast a magic net?”

Jean’s encounter with Grossular reveals the first time they met each other not long after Jean and Lotta lost their parents in a train accident. When Jean doesn’t deliver any useful information to Mauve she begins to lose faith in him but an audit in the tropical Hare district convinces Jean that he might yet be able to uncover something.

The accusation against Misuzu has more truth to it than most realize, but Misuzu herself doesn’t know how it happened. Determined to find someone who can help her, Chips and Chuuta search for Dr. Strangelove who is also on the run from some criminals. With some help from a pair of officers from the 5th Bureau, they soon find more than they expected.

“A Kind Sigh”

Seven days after Keika’s death, the people who were closest to him in life offer prayers for his spirit to find peace. Ki takes him to witness this, but Keika is dismayed when he learns that his friends are being targeted by thugs.  On top of lamenting the fact that his time among the living is over, Keika disturbing visions of the Rakugetsu Youmeishi may spell great danger for Ki. 

Saga of Tanya the Evil – episode 6

“Beginning of Madness”

After they successfully overtake the Dakian capital, Gen. Ruedeldorf transfers Tanya’s mage battalion to Norden to fight off the Entente forces at the border. Tanya relieves another mage company that has fallen under attack and pushes back her enemies, but her attempt to find survivors among the wreckage leads to another encounter with Being X.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge – episode 6

“Attack! Battle of the Home Visits”

Yoshino grows increasingly suspicious of Neko and tails her into a neighborhood interior where they are intercepted by Masamune’s mom. Masamune returns home to the horror of them both helping with a meal at his mom’s request. Masamune tries to hurry everyone home after the dinner and subsequent fireworks party, but not before Neko secures a valuable piece of information. 

Scum’s Wish – Episode 5

“Destruction Baby”

Hana and Mugi recall their younger days, reflecting on how they shaped the way they feel in the present. Coming to a mutual understanding that they may not be special to one another, they toy with the idea of forgetting all their reservations about intimacy. Meanwhile, Akane grows disinterested in Narumi until he accidentally gives her another reason to hurt Hanabi.  

Winter 2017 Week 5

As we enter the fifth week of the Winter 2017 season, a lot of the shows seem to be trying to position themselves for more involved threads. Though we found some doing this more successfully than others, we’re still getting a sense of where each one might be headed.
