Another Super Special Awesome “Thank You!!”

No, I didn’t get another free amigurumi doll. This is for the members of this community who constantly remind me what amazing people they are.

As many of you likely know, I recently had a birthday. I’m saying you likely know since I found out that my wife, KimmieKawaii, has been hounding you to pass along your birthday wishes for a video montage she surprised me with.

First off, thank you for indulging her. I’m blessed to be able to say that she looks forward to my birthday all year, and always tries to outdo herself. It made her happy to be able to do this, and I was very happy to see many of you respond even if you might not know her very well (Let’s be real. She’s more popular than I am here, isn’t she?).

No, it’s cool. I’m fine with that.

But more than that, thank you for everything you guys said and wrote to me. The video was beyond my expectations, and not because of Kimmie’s stellar editing work. What really floored me was that you all took the time to give me such thoughtful, personal messages for an occasion that, given how little stock I put into it myself, you had very few reasons to care about at all.

To see you all showing that kind of consideration reminded me how fortunate I am to have met you. I don’t make a habit of sharing what’s going on with me personally, so most of you probably don’t realize how much of a mood lifter your messages were. Like most everyone else, I have my share of ups and downs and unfortunately I wasn’t feeling great this past week. That all changed for my birthday, which really felt special thanks to Kimmie and all of you.

My responses in no particular order:

You’re always great fun to chat with as well!

I enjoyed as much anime, cheesecake, and fun times as I could handle 🙂

I really did feel like the happiest person in the world, and I have everything I want.

I had lots of some (cheese)cake and watched ALL the a few animoos.

God bless you, and thank you so much for the kind words.

I feel like it’s going to be a great year ahead.

And I hope to keep blogging with you for a long time to come!

But I’ll try to make some time for myself too

Thank you all for your support for everything I’ve shared.

Thank you all, for being my friends.

Right, so…

Before I get sappier there’s a few gifts I wanted to share. I’m a little disappointed to report that I didn’t actually receive any anime this time, but I got plenty of it earlier in the year that I’m still trying to get through, so no complaints here!

I did get some nice anime related gifts, though I dare say Kimmie went for the easy win when she picked these out:

Not like I’m a fan or anything.

We watched the film last night actually, so I may do a write up soon on how it compares with the original. The manga are for my slowly growing collection. At this rate I only need to wait five years before I have all eleven books ^_^’

Once again, thank you all for the warm wishes, and a special thank you to Kimmie for putting this all together.

  1. I didn’t know you just had a birthday! Well, happy belated birthday then! 🎂🍦 It’s cute that your wife made you a video and got the blogging community’s help with it.
And I’ve been interested in seeing Your Lie in April since seeing a short clip (the part where the two leads meet), and I realized that the girl (Kaori, right?) was playing a song from one of my favorite Ghibli movies, Castle in the Sky!

    1. Yes, she’s a real sweetheart. Thank you for the birthday wishes all the same!

Kaori was indeed playing Pazu’s fanfare from Castle in the Sky when they meet. It’s a really great scene. I can’t recommend that anime enough, so definitely watch it (and check out my episodic rewatch posts if you do).

      1. No problem!
And YES, I knew it! I freaked out so much when I saw that clip. It’s probably why I want to watch it; it was like: hey, I know that song! I LOVE that song!
I will definitely read you episode rewatch posts when I do! I’m currently watching Fate/Zero at the moment, but once I have time, I will check out Your Lie in April.

  2. Really glad you had a good birthday. The gifts look awesome (I must admit, anime fans are the easiest people to shop for come birthday’s) and I’m really happy to hear you liked the messages. Kimmie was awesome in getting the word out and asking for these and I know we all really wanted to help her out and to wish you an amazing birthday.

    1. There certainly is a lot of selection when shopping for anime fans. She did a really good job with gifts this year all around, though.

Thank you again for your message. It was really nice of you to do that! You know, with your voice you should really think about doing videos or a podcast 🙂

      1. I am working on that. Just don’t have enough time to do it well and so am slowly chipping away at getting better audio quality. Then I have to actually look at the video side of things. That was kind of the point of starting the patreon page. If I can reach my target I can take a step back at work and free up some more hours in my week for blogging and then I intend to try to have a mix of written and video content, or podcasts.

    1. Liiitaaa!! That video was so much fun. Thank you for recording it and for your kind words. Weekdays are a little hard to work around, but I’m going to do what you said and try to fill this weekend with lots of animoos.

I’m surprised you didn’t know about me and Kimmie since I feel like I mention it a lot. It’s kind of funny what sorts of details slip 😀

  5. Happy belated Birthday!! That’s so awesome that your wife and the WordPress community helped make a video for you!
And I heard about the live action adaptation of Your Lie in April. I’m thinking of watching it sometime soon.
I hope you had a fun and awesome birthday! 🙂

    1. Thank you! The video was a lot of fun and I’m glad people seemed to enjoy participating as well.

I’ll cover everything I want to say about the film in a post eventually, but for now I’ll say that the focus was different for this movie than the series. Kousei doesn’t receive as much development here (or it’s not as good) and they spend a lot more time on his relationship with Kaori.

  6. I have had a bit of a hectic few days, so I am playing catch up to a lot of posts (and responses I still haven’t replied to, but will get to them ASAP😊). I’m really glad to hear that you have had a great birthday. And the gifts that you have received look seriously awesome. It was such an incrible fun idea of Kimmie, so I did not even have to think about it 😊 Glad to read you enjoyed the videos! 😀
