A recent article from syfy.com attempts to highlight a tendency for anime to idealize fascism, but ultimately proves itself an example of Western viewpoints getting in the way of reasonable critique of anime.

After recieving Peshi and Yakkara’s support, Jean makes his way to the isolated city of Pranetta for his next audit. There he finds a determined people who worry about the possibility of a future without ACCA. As the King’s health takes a turn, many are thinking about their contingency plans as Prince Schwann is slated to ascend to the throne.

“A Graceful Black Adder Bears Its Fangs”

As Jean departs for a trio of audits that will keep him from home for a while, conspirators in Dowa make plans to eliminate Lotta from the equation. Some quick work by Magie and Rail delay them until a watchful eye in Badon arrives to help. At the ACCA headquarters, Grossular reveals all that he has been plotting with regards to Jean, but his true role in this story is even more surprising.

Nino reveals the secrets behind Jean and Lotta’s royal parentage though flashbacks that recount the events of the past 33 years. Explaining that he and his father are servants of Princess Schnee’s guard, Abend, Nino details their task of secretly reporting back on Schnee and her family’s life.

“The Truth Emerges in the Night Mists”

Jean wonders about all the conspiracy surrounding him as an audit in Dōwā leads to an unexpected meeting with the king. While Prince Schwann finds out more about the accident which claimed his mother’s life, Mauve’s spies uncover a startling secret about Jean that changes everything.

“Where Pride and Train Tracks Lead”

Jean’s encounter with Grossular reveals the first time they met each other not long after Jean and Lotta lost their parents in a train accident. When Jean doesn’t deliver any useful information to Mauve she begins to lose faith in him but an audit in the tropical Hare district convinces Jean that he might yet be able to uncover something.

“Overlapping Footprints in the Distance”

Lilium questions Jean about Suitsu and reveals that Jean is being shadowed by someone he knows. While on assignment in Birra Jean confronts Nino about watching him, though Nino assures him it’s not for the reason he suspects. Upon returning to Badon, Jean asks Nino watch over Lotta while he’s away on his next assignment in Rokkusu District. Once there, Jean is surprised to run into Chief Officer Grossular.

“Smoldering Embers in an Isolated Nation”

Jean’s audit schedule has him traveling to the District of Suitsu, a region removed from the rest of Dōwā kingdom for the benefit of preserving tradition.  After being captured by a growing resistance movement, who accuse him of overhearing vital information, Jean learns that a coup is forming in Suitsu in outrage over being denied modern conveniences and restrictions on travel.
